WHO WE ARE
We have one objective: to lead the way for deafblind people out of the darkness and silence. Lega del Filo d’Oro assists, educates, and rehabilitates deafblind individuals, empowering them to lead full and productive lives within their communities.
We envision a future where every deafblind child and adult has a safe place in their community.
At the core of this work is the vision of our founder, Sabina Santilli, who became deafblind at the age of 7. She understood from her own experience how deafblind individuals can lack support, education and services. In 1964, she gathered a small group of volunteers, motivated by “the precious thread that unites the deafblind community with the outside world.”
Over the years, Lega del Filo d’Oro has built specialized branches with highly qualified staff in eight regions of Italy.

Research and experimentation in the field of deafblindness and multisensory disabilities, in partnerships with other organizations

To maintain that precious thread that unites deafblind people with the outside world, we have extended our reach. Friends of Lega del Filo d’Oro was launched in 2016 in the United States, embracing the friendship between Italy and the United States and inviting new friends to join this community.
